January Snow Storm

Well we finally got a snow storm here. We have been here for 6 years now, and this is the worst we have seen it. Now when we say worse, we know it doesn't compare to anything our family, and most of our friends see every winter. However when it happens here its very rare. The snow started on Friday afternoon, and I didn't work on friday so I was at home with the girls. Brandon made it home around 12, before the snow started to really come.

We got about 5 inches of snow, and than Friday night we started to hear ice on our windows. Since the snow has come and gone, we have yet to see a snow plow in our area. Brandon said we never will. We saw a tractor on one of the side roads we took to our friends house with a blade scrapping the snow, and a truck and not a big one a F150 with a salt spreader on the back. Brandon went out Saturday morning to shovel our driveway. He said we got about 1/2 to and 1 inch of ice on top of the snow. So shoveling was not fun for him, he said it was very heavy. We were very thankful though that we didn't loose power, but we were prepared if we would had. Another funny thing about living here and not having a snow storm would be Brandon and I do not have any snow boots! Brandon went to Walmart on Friday morning looking for a shovel and boots. He did get a pair for him, but the womens boots were 40 dollars! He did buy me a pair to wear if I had to get out. But I said forget that. They were Pink of all colors, and most people who know me know that I do not wear pink! I found some on a website called REI and they are North Face, they were half off because they only had a size 10 left. Well that is perfect for me. So even though I didn't have it for this snow storm, I will be prepared for the next one even if I have to wait 5 or 6 years. He also was on a mission to look for a snow shovel, but there was none to be found. He had to settle for a farm shovel. It did the job, but as you can tell we were not prepared.

Just another example as to how the South doesn't know how to prepare for a snow storm, is the roads. Saturday morning when I woke up I turned on the news. The newscaster said they would like to be able to report good road conditions out there, but there aren't any. All the highways and side streets were bad. When they showed them on the news, I never saw a snow plow on the roads. Where we grew up they would be out before the storm, during the storm and def. after. But not here. Schools were off on Friday, and they are still off on Monday. Let me remind you we only got 5-6 inches of snow.

Since we don't see snow that much, it also requires everyone to go outside and take pictures of the pretty white stuff. Everyone around us including us were out side taking pictures of the history making event;-) Enjoy the pictures
